How to tell if a delivery order pays off
Updated:
In short
An order pays off when, after tax, fuel and the app's commission, every kilometre of the route still earns at least your threshold — for example 2.00 zł/km. Count the whole route: the ride to the restaurant and the delivery. The amount on the screen and the gross rate per kilometre on their own are misleading.
Step by step
-
Take the amount and kilometres from the offer
The amount is gross — what the courier app shows. The kilometres are the whole route: to the restaurant and to the customer.
-
Subtract tax and contributions
Multiply the gross amount by the factor for your type of contract. With “This contract only, 26+” you keep 72.23% of gross, with “B2B — lump sum 8.5%” 91.5%.
-
Subtract fuel
Kilometres × consumption per 100 km ÷ 100 × price per litre. Riding a bike? Skip this step.
-
Subtract commission
If the app or a fleet partner takes a percentage, it is calculated from gross and subtracted from net.
-
Divide by kilometres and compare with your threshold
The result is the net rate per km after deductions. Above your threshold — the order pays off.
Example
A made-up offer: 24.00 zł gross for 8 km, contract “This contract only, 26+”, a car using 7 l/100 km, fuel at 6.50 zł/l, 5% commission.
| Item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Amount from the offer (gross) | 24.00 zł |
| Net after tax (× 0.7223) | 17.34 zł |
| Fuel: 8 km × 7 l/100 km × 6.50 zł/l | −3.64 zł |
| Commission: 5% of 24.00 zł | −1.20 zł |
| What's left | 12.50 zł |
| Rate: 12.50 zł ÷ 8 km | 1.56 zł/km |
Without deductions the same offer gives 2.17 zł/km and passes the 2.00 zł/km threshold. After fuel and commission only 1.56 zł/km is left — an order that looks profitable is actually below the threshold.
What else changes the result
- You set the threshold yourself. The default is 2.00 zł/km net. Lower costs or few offers — lower it; plenty to choose from — raise it.
- An extra delivery added to an ongoing order is judged on the increase: the extra money divided by the extra kilometres, not on the whole trip.
- Waiting at the restaurant eats your hour, not your kilometres. The per-km rate can't see it, so keep an eye on the hourly rate too.
- Without fuel data the app subtracts nothing, so the result is too high — set your threshold higher.
What this calculation leaves out
Servicing, tyres, insurance and depreciation. They are real costs but spread over months — which is why it's worth setting your threshold with a margin.
The app does this for you
“Opłaca się?” does this calculation in a second: tap the bubble over an offer and you see the rate per km after tax, fuel and commission, plus an ACCEPT or REJECT verdict. No account, your data stays on your phone.
Tax factors come from the app and are an approximation, not tax advice.
